Continuing a Legacy of Giving:

Kappa Iota Chapter's Holiday Food Distribution

Since its founding in 1945, the Kappa Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has been dedicated to supporting families in need through our annual Thanksgiving and Christmas food distribution. What began as a simple act of kindness—providing canned goods to a family in need—has evolved into a cherished tradition that has impacted countless lives. Since 1981, we’ve averaged 7–10 baskets at Thanksgiving and 10 or more at Christmas, expanding our offerings to include clothes and toys, with over $20,000 in direct support provided to underserved community members.

In the early 2000s, we took this initiative to new heights by partnering with The Pearl Group Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and the Department of Children’s Services. This collaboration enabled us to identify more families in need and extend our outreach. We began investing up to $200 per family and teamed up with Food City on Highway 58 to personally shop for the baskets, which we proudly hand-delivered to families until 2020.

This initiative remains a cornerstone of our commitment to service. In partnership with The Pearl Group Inc., we provide food products for five families before Thanksgiving and another five families during the Christmas season. Our dedication to serving the community remains steadfast, and we look forward to continuing to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.

Our efforts extend beyond the holidays, reflecting our enduring mission to uplift and empower our community through impactful service and thoughtful outreach. Together, we honor the spirit of giving and remain committed to building a brighter future for all.
